Dog was Terrified of Everything in the House Except the Couch

Lulu, a Greyhound who had raced 200 times, had never been exposed to the simplicity of home life until she was taken in by Kaye and her husband, following the passing of their previous Greyhound, Murphy. The couple decided to foster another Greyhound to honor Murphy’s memory and contacted their local rescue, leading them to Lulu. Lulu, however, struggled with adapting to domestic life due to her lack of familiarity with such an environment. She exhibited significant anxiety, particularly triggered by the television, which frightened her to the extent that she would escape upstairs, although she was unable to come back down without assistance.

Lulu was not only afraid of the TV but also had a deep-seated fear of men, which made her initially wary of Kaye’s husband and terrified of Kaye’s father, a seasoned dog lover. Despite these challenges, there was a breakthrough when Lulu accepted treats from Kaye’s father and even gave him a small kiss, though she reverted to her cautious behavior during subsequent visits.

At home, Lulu’s personality was vastly different. She was affectionate and loved being close to her caregivers, often laying on the sofa with them. Her presence was so comforting that Kaye would often forego other activities just to keep Lulu relaxed beside her. Kaye was deeply moved by Lulu’s affection, feeling a special bond that reminded her of Murphy, which led to her decision to permanently adopt Lulu.

Outside the house, Lulu behaved quite differently. She was shy and withdrawn, uncertain of her surroundings, even when taken to places like the beach. Despite these difficulties, Lulu displayed moments of happiness and gratitude that deeply touched Kaye, who felt a profound connection and love radiating from Lulu.
