Chihuahua scared of human touch is totally different now!

Wanda, a frail and elderly Chihuahua, was rescued from imminent euthanasia by Carla and Ash from the LA shelter system. Known as ‘Don’t Touch Me Wanda’ at the shelter due to her extreme aversion to human contact, she weighed only 3.9 pounds upon rescue. Her initial fear of touch, especially around her belly, showcased the depth of her emotional and physical fragility.

Ash took Wanda into their foster program, marking the beginning of a transformative journey. Over time, in the safety and security of her new home, Wanda’s demeanor changed remarkably. From a dog who screamed at the slightest touch, she grew to actively seek out belly rubs, enjoying them from various angles nightly. Wanda’s personality blossomed, becoming sassy and bossy, asserting herself even against much larger dogs, demonstrating her newfound confidence and strength.

Despite missing part of her jaw, Wanda learned to eat kibble from other dogs’ bowls, displaying her adaptability and resilience. Her bond with Ash grew so profound that she became a long-term foster, permanently residing at the sanctuary. Through her recovery and transformation, Wanda taught Ash invaluable lessons about life, love, and resilience, becoming not just a pet but a respected and loved family member. Her journey from a fearful, untouchable dog to a loving and assertive companion is a testament to the power of care and compassion.
