This dog spent two years looking for a family to take him home

Brad, a resilient and sweet dog, spent two years searching for a forever home.

Brad’s journey began as a stray in Houston, where he was found in a dire state, suffering from severe injuries, including a partially missing tail. Despite his pain, his gentle and friendly nature shone through when he approached his rescuers. At the shelter, it was discovered that Brad was deaf, which led to him being sent to a prison canine training program in Canyon City, Colorado. There, he learned hand signals to facilitate communication.

Although Brad was adopted by a foster family, he was unfortunately returned after a few months and placed in a boarding facility. This is where Lisa met him. Moved by his sweet disposition, Lisa decided to foster Brad. She was quickly charmed by his easygoing and loving nature, leading her to officially adopt him in November.

Living with Lisa, Brad showed that he was not reactive and held no grudges despite his past hardships. He exhibited a joyful energy and a love for life, whether he was chomping at water during baths, sunbathing in the yard, or nonchalantly watching fireworks, unaffected due to his deafness. Brad’s independence and gentle demeanor challenged the initial reservations people often had about his breed and size.

Despite the challenges of managing a deaf dog, particularly in off-leash situations at dog parks, Lisa has navigated his care well, mindful of not putting him in potentially problematic situations. Brad’s story is a testament to his forgiving nature and ability to love, inspiring those around him with his resilience and positivity.
